Cardiac Cycle diagram

A cardiac cycle describes all the activities of the heart through one complete heartbeat—that is, through one contraction and relaxation of both the atria and ventricles.

Cardiac cycle totally revolves around the human heart, which is divisible into four chambers. Two upper chambers are auricles, while the lower two chambers are called ventricles.

Two terms are very important in the cardiac cycle

  • Systolic (the contraction phase)
  • Diastolic (the relaxation phase)
