Materials Needed

Steps to Follow
- Heat the Pan: Heat a metal pan on a stove or another heat source.
- Observe the Handle: After a few minutes, carefully touch the handle of the pan.
Expected Observations
- The metal part of the pan will become very hot.
- The plastic or wooden handle will be much cooler compared to the metal.
Understanding the Concepts
- Good and Poor Conductors: Metals are good conductors of heat. They transfer heat quickly, making the metal part of the pan hot. On the other hand, plastic and wood are poor conductors. They don’t transfer heat as effectively, so the handle remains cooler.
- Why Different Materials React Differently: The molecules in metals are arranged in a way that allows them to transfer heat quickly. In materials like plastic and wood, the molecular structure doesn’t allow heat to pass through as easily.
