Mitosis or Mitotic Cell Division
Mitotic cell division is a type of cell division which occurs in somatic cells of the body for growth and for repairing old/injured cells.
The chromosomes number the newly formed cells remain the same as in the mother or dividing cell.

12 Important Reasons which shows why mitosis is important is as follows –
- Mitosis is responsible for the development of the zygote into an adult.The growth of multicellular organisms is due to Mitosis.
- Mitosis is important in growth or increase in the body size due to formation of new cells in the tissues.

- Mitotic divisions in the meristematic tissues – the apical and the lateral cambium, result in a continuous growth of plants throughout their life.
- Since no recombination and segregation occurs in the process, Mitosis helps in maintaining the purity of types.
- Asexual reproduction in which the unicellular organisms, such as amoeba or the yeast cell, divide into two with mitosis.
