Can there be Mitosis without DNA Replication in S phase ?

Mitosis is the process of cell division that ensures the equal distribution of genetic material to daughter cells. During mitosis, the duplicated chromosomes of a cell are divided into two identical sets, which are then distributed equally into two daughter cells. This process is important for growth, development, and tissue repair. It allows cells to divide and replace damaged or dead cells. 

Why is DNA Replication important before mitosis? 

DNA replication is Important for mitosis because it creates identical copies of the genetic material that will be divided into the two daughter cells, ensuring that they are genetically identical to each other and the parent cell.

DNA replication, which occurs during the S phase of interphase, is an  important step in mitosis because it ensures that each daughter cell receives a complete and identical set of genetic information.

Can there be Mitosis without DNA Replication in S phase? 

Mitotic cell division is not possible without DNA replication in S phase . Before mitosis, DNA of a cell must be replicated during the S (synthesis) phase of interphase. This is the period between mitotic divisions. In the process of DNA replication the DNA molecule unwinds and separates into two strands.Each strand serves as a template for the synthesis of a new complementary strand resulting in two identical copies of the original DNA molecule.

Cell cycle is tightly regulated to ensure that DNA replication occurs before mitosis. DNA replication is initiated during the G1 phase of interphase. The cells must pass through a series of checkpoint controls to ensure that replication is complete and accurate before progressing to the next phase of the cell cycle, including mitosis.

Without DNA replication there would be no duplicated chromosomes to distribute to the daughter cells during mitosis. As a result, each daughter cell would receive only half of the genetic information of the parent cell, leading to genetic abnormalities and potentially fatal consequences. Therefore, DNA replication is an important  step for mitosis to occur.
