What is the Importance of DNA copying in Reproduction – Class 10

DNA Copying is important in the process of reproduction for the following reasons

  • DNA is the genetic material which is a source of information for making proteins.
  •  DNA contains information for inheritance of characters of characters from parents to offsprings. It is the information source for many proteins.
  • If this information changes , then a different set of proteins will be synthesized which will eventually lead to variations.
  • Also, errors in DNA copying lead to variations which is the basis for evolution.
  • DNA replication ensures that each daughter cell formed at the end of cell division receives an equal amount of DNA.
  • If DNA fails to copy itself then the process of cell division (mitosis, meiosis) will not happen. Thus it is important for the continuation of life .
