Cytoplasm Short Note
Definition:
The fluid that fills up the cells is referred to as the cytoplasm.
Discovery:
In 1863, a Swiss biologist named Rudolf von Kolliker coined the term “Cytoplasm”.
Structure:
- Cell organelles have various structures which exist inside cells.
- All these structures are distinct and perform some particular functions.
- The cytoplasm is an essential component of the cell and is available in a semi-liquid jelly-like material.
Function:
- Enable cells to maintain their turgidity, which enables the cells to hold their shape.
- Home to many activities of the cell as it contains enzymes, molecules, that are crucial in the breakdown of the waste.
- Also involved in many metabolic activities.
- Provides a shape to the cell.
- The nucleus, cytoplasm and all other living components of the cell together make up the protoplasm of a cell.
