What is the Difference Between Natural Kidney And Artificial Kidney ?

  • Artificial kidney is a membrane separation device that serves as mass exchanger during clinical use.
  • Artificial kidney is different from natural kidney as the process of Reabsorption does not occur in Artificial kidney.
  • Normally, in a healthy adult, the initial filtrate in the kidneys is about 180 L daily. However, the volume actually excreted is only 1-1.8 liter a day. This happens because the remaining filtrate is reabsorbed in the tubules of the kidney
  • Artificial kidney unable to perform any metabolic functions and selective reabsorption of a normal kidney.
  • Therefore, it cannot correct abnormalities resulting from the loss of kidney function.
  • Artificial kidney can only substitute kidney in the transfer of waste  substances from blood to be eliminated from the body
