5 Important Significance of Excretion and Osmoregulation

Excretion and Osmoregulation go on side by side and they have the following Significance in the body –

Also Check – What is Osmoregulation

  1. Excretion removes the unwanted or waste by-products of metabolic pathways which unnecessarily hinder the chemical equilibrium of reactions.
  2. Excretion removes many toxic chemical substances which damage the cells, act as enzyme inhibitors or affect the metabolic activities of the organism.
  3. Excretion and osmoregulation regulate the ionic concentration of body fluids. This is important because proper balancing of ions is necessary for enzyme activity, protein synthesis, production of hormones, permeability of membranes, muscle contraction and many other metabolic activities
  4. It regulates the water content of the body fluids which is very important in maintaining the solute potential and volume of body fluids.
  5. Excretion is a very important process in regulating the pH of the body fluid.
