Chapter 10- A Detailed Guide to “Nutrition in Plants” Activities for Class 7 Students

Activity 1.2- Observing Fungal Growth on Bread

  • Concept- This activity helps students understand fungal growth and its environmental requirements.
  • Procedure- A piece of bread is moistened and left in a warm, moist place. After 2-3 days, the bread is observed for the growth of fluffy fungal patches. These patches are examined under a microscope or magnifying glass to see the structure of the fungus.
  • Learning Outcome- Students observe firsthand how fungi grow and spread, understanding the conditions that favour fungal growth and the role of fungi as decomposers in the ecosystem​​.

Experiment to Test the Occurrence of Photosynthesis

  • Concept- The experiment demonstrates the crucial role of sunlight in photosynthesis.
  • Procedure- A potted plant with broad leaves is used. Parts of two leaves are covered with black paper, blocking sunlight. After exposing the plant to sunlight for several days, an iodine test is performed to check for starch presence in both covered and uncovered parts. The process is repeated with a second leaf.
