A neuron, or nerve cell, is a specialized cell that is responsible for transmitting information throughout the body. Neurons have a unique shape that allows them to efficiently carry out their functions.
What does Neuron look like
Neurons look like a “Star-shaped cell with a Tail” .
- Neuron consists of a Cell body (Star Shaped ), dendrites, and an Axon (Tail Like).
- The cell body, also known as the soma, contains the nucleus and other organelles.
- The dendrites are short, branching extensions that receive signals from other neurons. The axon is a long, slender projection that carries signals away from the cell body to other neurons or muscles.
- At the end of the axon are small structures called terminals, which release chemical signals called neurotransmitters.
